Bob Studinger, academic dean at Westwood College’s Denver South campus, won a regional Emmy award this past weekend in the category of Best Musical Score for a Documentary for his work on the film Territorial Prison: Stories Behind the Walls.
Studinger received the award from the Heartland chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Saturday in a ceremony at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
A Westwood faculty member for the past three years, Studinger is a three-time Emmy award winner who also composed the scores for the short film Carmondi and the documentary Sprawling from Grace, both of which were released in 2008. In addition to his work at Westwood, Studinger is the owner of Soundscores, which creates music compositions for film and media.
A native of central Denver, Studinger has been playing piano professionally since he was 12.
Territorial Prison is an hourlong documentary about the Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility, the state’s oldest prison. A medium security prison in Canon City, Colorado, the CTCF opened in 1871 and became part of the Colorado prison system in 1876. The documentary explores the stories of the prison’s 141-year-old history.
