Recently we’ve shared stories of Westwood faculty and staff participating in the new month-long Good Works program. As we’ve been collecting these stories from across our campuses, we’ve discovered that in many cases, our students were stepping up and volunteering side-by-side with faculty and staff from their campuses.
Throughout the year, many of our students, faculty and staff volunteer their time for a range of service opportunities. The Good Works initiative was designed to enhance these efforts and empower the entire Westwood organization to serve in their respective communities during the month of June, increasing our combined impact across the country.
Even though the first phase of Westwood’s Good Works program was intended for our employees, it came as no surprise that our students would seize the opportunity to work alongside others from their campuses to make a difference and serve those in need.
This is precisely why we love what we do.
Westwood students are one-of-a-kind. Not only are they exceeding the demands of everyday life, they are prioritizing their commitments in order to find new ways of being successful. Our students juggle a lot – kids, caring for family members, full-time jobs, homework, deadlines, student loans, scholarship applications, networking, job hunting, internships, bills, budgets … the list goes on and on.
But what makes a Westwood student stand out is his or her ability to determine what really matters and then get it done.
Our students never cease to amaze us. Their actions provide daily inspiration for everyone who works at the College. When an opportunity to volunteer presented itself at the campuses – even though it wasn’t a requirement for students – many of them chose to dedicate their valuable time to serving their community.
So, thank you to all the students from our campuses who rolled up their sleeves and worked hard alongside Westwood’s faculty and staff doing good in their communities.
With so many students expressing interest in Good Works, we’re excited to formally open the program up to the entire Westwood community next year – inviting students, alumni and their families to join us in an even bigger community service initiative. We look forward to sharing those stories in 2014!
